The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Editorial Panel recently approved changes to several interventional radiology codes for CY2016. These changes require review of physician work. Help SIR assure that the complexity of your work is accurately and fairly presented to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Survey links will be sent to SIR members via the society’s twice-monthly newsletter SIR Guidewire. Below is an overview of the surveys that IRs (U.S.-practicing physicians) should take time to complete.
Percutaneous biliary procedures
There are 14 new CPT codes to describe percutaneous biliary procedures.
- Main biliary family (8 new codes)
- Biliary stent family (3 new codes)
- Biliary add-on (ZZZ global period) family (3 new codes)
Genitourinary catheter procedures
There are 12 new CPT codes to describe genitourinary catheter procedures. We surveyed nine of the codes for the last Relative Value Update Committee (RUC) meeting. We need to survey the three new add-on (ZZZ global period) codes for this meeting.
There is one new CPT code to describe sclerotherapy of a fluid collection (e.g., lymphocele, cyst or sermoma) through a percutaneous access.
Supervision, handing, loading of radiation source
CPT code 77790 requires a review of physician work, due to changes within the larger family of these codes. When completing this survey, only consider the work of supervision, handling and loading of the radiation source. The primary procedure (e.g., embolization) would be reported separately.
Your input is vital to the success of this process and we appreciate your time and effort to assist advocating reasonable RVUs for these procedures under review. SIR asks that these surveys be completed by Friday, March 13, 2015.
Please note that the survey software works only on laptop/desktop computers, not mobile devices. If you have any questions, please contact Trisha Crishock via phone at (703) 934-8272 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are not an SIR member but are a U.S.-practicing physician interested in completing the survey, contact the society at email@example.com.
